"The Danger of A Single Story"

I have recently discovered TED talks and am of course a huge fan! I listen to them while I am painting, and I came across one yesterday by Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, who explains the danger of a single narrative. Adichie masterfully identifies the problems of a single narrative by telling of her personal experiences in Nigeria, then in America, and also through her travels to Mexico. She explains:

"The consequence of the single story is this: It robs people of dignity. It makes our recognition of our equal humanity difficult. It emphasizes how we are different rather than how we are similar."

This is the reason I am creating "Just a peek, please?" To expand the narrative and build connections.
